FPIS application

A Major Retailer Enhances Efficiency and Stability with Optimized Fuel Pricing

A global leader in convenience retail needed to improve the performance and reliability of its Fuels Pricing Integration Services (FPIS) application. Their system’s instability and limited monitoring capabilities were impacting pricing operations that directly supported fuel revenue and customer value. Pyramid Consulting helped them enhance pricing operations that directly support fuel revenue and customer value.

Challenges

The FPIS application played a critical role in helping pricing analysts and business users set and adjust fuel prices based on market data. Prior to our involvement, the client’ faced three operational constraints:

  • Monitoring service performance required significant manual effort and could not be sustained at scale
  • Response times to application issues were delayed, affecting users’ ability to make timely pricing decisions
  • Diagnosing system issues was difficult due to limited traceability across interconnected services

These issues created inefficiencies and introduced potential risk to pricing execution in a highly competitive and time-sensitive environment.

Our solution

We joined the client’s team with a clear focus on improving system scalability, visibility, and performance. Key initiatives included:

  • Organizing workloads using agile epics and JIRA-based task management to improve sprint efficiency and prioritization
  • Reviewing technical architecture and identifying improvements to address system performance and long-term maintainability
  • Implementing automation to streamline service monitoring and enhance traceability using advanced observability tools and libraries

These improvements helped the client shift from reactive support to proactive issue detection, enabling smoother day-to-day operations and a more resilient pricing infrastructure.

Business outcomes

Our contributions delivered meaningful operational improvements for the FPIS application:

  • Accelerated response times: Reduced issue resolution time from approximately seven to four days, enabling faster support for business users and minimizing operational delays
  • Improved monitoring and detection: Introduced automated service monitoring that enhanced visibility into system health and detect issues before they impacted pricing operations
  • Freed up team capacity: By automating recurring tasks, the internal team was able to shift focus from manual system checks to higher-value initiatives like pricing strategy and performance analysis
  • Increased system reliability: Enhancements to tracing and observability reduced troubleshooting complexity, contributing to better system stability and greater confidence among stakeholders

By improving the stability and observability of the client’s FPIS application, we enabled them to better manage fuel pricing decisions with confidence and agility. This engagement reflects our ability to deliver focused technology solutions that reduce risk, increase operational efficiency, and support long-term business goals.
